Carson Mall needs to tidy up landscaping

It's great to see that the Carson Mall is planning outdoor concerts this summer. Carson City thrives on outdoor activities.

All over town, colorful flower baskets are resplendent. The Greenhouse Project is about to break ground. Residences and businesses all around the community display beautifully kept buildings and grounds.

As of today, Carson Mall is bordered on Carson and Stewart Streets by depressing, ugly, dying weeds. This neglected border makes the property look blighted. Please, please - can you address this? It is an embarrassing eyesore on an otherwise well-kept main street.

Tidying your landscaping will encourage folks to visit your businesses as well as your concerts.

Sheriff candidate sends thanks to his supporters

I am writing to express my gratitude to the citizens of Carson City, and all the great people I met and talked with during my campaign for sheriff of Carson City.

The political process was very enlightening and the number of people I met was awe-inspiring.

For all my friends and family, I want to personally thank you for your support, hard work and dedication to the process. I want to personally thank Richard Schneider and Dennis Johnson for their hard work and dedication to my campaign. They spent countless hours walking the community and talking with voters, and for that I am grateful.

For those who wonder what is next, I will be continuing my work at the Sheriff's Office and fulfilling my responsibilities to the mission of the Sheriff's Office. I would like to encourage all those who supported me in this endeavor to give your support to Sheriff Furlong. The citizens in Carson City and the employees of the Sheriff's Office need proven leadership in the form of education and experience; we cannot afford uneducated individuals in management positions to oversee the budget and issues that Carson City will be faced with in the future.

In November make the right choice and re-elect Sheriff Furlong. Thank you all for the journey and I look forward to serving Carson City.

The president parties while Americans suffer

It is a life of endless lavish parties, photo ops, golf games and vacations. It must be a Hollywood celebrity, right? Wrong. It is our community organizer/agitator President Obama.

While the people of the Gulf Coast struggle to cope with the largest environmental disaster in our history, Obama partied on with the likes of Paul McCartney and a star-studded guest list. Egged on by the adoring Washington, D.C., media, Obama has created a world of lavish galas, black ties and celebrity chefs. After a short time as our leader, Obama has become the first party president with more social affairs than any president in history. All of this while average Americans suffer through his failing economic policies.

As president and the leader of the free world, Obama is an abject failure. His administration's handling of the oil spill is breathtakingly incompetent. Obama's lack of credentials to hold the most powerful office in the world was evident prior to his election, but many held out hope that he would surround himself with a competent staff. Instead we have the modern-day version of the Keystone Kops and Moe, Larry and Curley.

Obama is an embarrassment to our country, which must be corrected at the voting booth. While we are at it, we need to throw out all the tax-and-spend Democrats in Washington who have enabled Obama's socialist agenda. If we don't turn this thing around now, it may be too late.
