Dobson's Dream the Awful End (continued from Friday): He left the town with a hundred tons on his shoulders, and the owners of the goods lashing him along the Geiger grade with curses. As he reached Thorp's toll house they tried to collect a dollar for every old washstand and bestead he had on his back. Then came the crash and the Comstock ledge has disappeared and he woke up to realize he had been conversing with William Woodburn about the prospects of the country and his nightmare was a result of his five-minute chat. As a counter-balance to the horrible vision, he went downtown and ordered 100 Sierra Nevada and 50 Union Con. Without limit.

100 YEARS AGO

A new $1,000 fish hatchery has been opened at Glenbrook. Hundreds enjoyed the Carson Valley Days Celebration. "The people of Carson Valley are certainly the most hospitable in the world. We hope this event will be carried off yearly."

70 YEARS AGO

A large and heavy headstone tumbled from Ginnochio's truck this noon on Carson Street, opposite the Nevada heroes memorial building. The problem of handling the stone was solved by repositioning Pozzi's tow car. The names on the stone were those of Francis Bernard Golden and Robert Lawrence Golden.

50 YEARS AGO

Nevada state library is featured on the first page of the June "Library Journal." The full page spread includes a recent photograph of the Supreme Court and Library building and carries a brief history of the library and biography of State Librarian Joseph F. Shubert.

20 YEARS AGO

Nine of 20 grocery stores and convenience shops sold alcohol to a minor during a Sheriff's Department undercover operation this week.

• Trent Dolan is the son of Bill Dolan, who wrote this column for the Nevada Appeal from 1947 until his death in 2006.
