Warren Engine Co. No. 1 meeting set

The 147th annual meeting and dinner of Warren Engine Co. No. 1 will include the installation of officers for 2010-11. No-host cocktails will be at 6 p.m. with dinner at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Elks Lodge, 515 N. Nevada St.

Warren Engine Co. No. 1 is an active group keeping the history of the fire service in Carson City since its inception. The group participates in the educational programs during Fire Prevention Week every October. It also offers barbecues several times a year at the Railroad Museum, including the Fourth of July weekend.

The museum is located at the main fire station at 777 S. Stewart St. from

9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.

Rescue group needs handy volunteers

Wylie Animal Rescue Foundation is in need of handy volunteers to help refurbish cat scratching posts to benefit cats in need in the Carson/Minden area.

Supplies will be provided and volunteers can work on the posts at home.

WARF consists of small group of volunteers dedicated to rescuing companion animals in imminent danger of euthanasia. It hosts cat and kitten adoptions on Saturdays at Petco on Topsy Lane.

Saving for college seminar offered

Mary Woods, a financial adviser for Morgan Stanley Smith Barney, will host The Smart Way to Save For College workshop 5 p.m. Friday at the Silver Oak Golf Course, 1251 Country Club Drive.

The seminar will address 529 savings plans, how they work and how they can help prepare for the rising costs of college.

Children's museum to host kids night

The Children's Museum of Northern Nevada is hosting its annual "Kid's Night at the Museum" during the "Taste of Downtown" Saturday.

The museum will entertain children ages 3-12 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. with open museum, crafts, snacks and movies.

The cost is $20 for one child or $40 for families of up to three kids.

The snacks for the event are being provided by Straw Hat pizza, Little Caeser's Pizza, and Walmart.

Chamber awards banquet offers gourmet cuisine

The Carson City Chamber of Commerce's 2010 Annual Meeting and Awards Banquet will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m June 21 at the Governor's Mansion on Mountain Street.

The menu includes filet of salmon, chicken piccata and lobster mac and cheese. Spring rolls, German-style cucumber salad, Caesar salad and shrimp also will be served, along with dessert of assorted cookies and pastries and rum cake.

Catering will be by Casino Fandango and cost is $30 per person.

Judges sought for Run What Cha Brung

Members of the Karson Kruzers club are looking for volunteer judges for its 26th annual Run What Cha Brung car event June 26 at Fuji Park.

The group is looking for volunteers from the community who have a passion for classic cars. A brief workshop for judging will be held the day of the event at 10 a.m. For more information, call 883-0927.

Democratic women to clean up highway

A co-ed Highway 395 cleanup is scheduled from 7:30-9 a.m. Saturday by the Carson City Democratic Women's Club.

Meeting place is the Carson Lanes parking lot at Snyder and Highway 395 on the frontage road. Water, safety vests and collection bags will be furnished, but gloves and a pick-up tool are recommended.

'Sip for a Cure' to benefit two nonprofits

The 4th Annual Sip for a Cure will be held from 5-8 p.m. June 26 at Tahoe Ridge Winery & Bistro in Minden.

Sip For A Cure will benefit the American Cancer Society in Carson City and Douglas County's Relay For Life.

Enjoy an evening of wine, food and music.
