Piute Detectives: A number of Piute Indians are out after the men who robbed the Bodie stage. They follow the trail like hounds, and are confident of effecting the capture. They are incited by the reward, which is $1,200 for the pair.

Mark Twain, when assuming editorship of the Buffalo Express, said laconically: "I only wish to assure parties having a friendly interest in the prosperity of this journal that I am not going to hurt the paper deliberately and intentionally at any time. I am not going to introduce any startling reform or in any way attempt to make trouble. I am simply going to do my plain unpretending duty - when I cannot get out of it. In writing I shall always confine myself strictly to the truth, except when it is attended with inconvenience. I shall witheringly rebuke all forms of crime and misconduct, except when committed by the party inhabiting my own vest."

70 YEARS AGO

Want to know how to qualify for membership in the new "Ancient and Honorable Order of the Squirrels?" The forest service has announced that each of the many thousands of visitors that climbs to 80 feet to the top of lookout stations will receive a card signed by the lookout man. Members of the new fraternity have no dues and no meetings but must follow the by-laws that read: "As a member of the Squirrel Club, I volunteer to help crack this nut by using the utmost care with fire in the woods." (Smokey Bear was created by the Ad Council in 1944).

50 YEARS AGO

Boy's State will open Carson City activities tomorrow at 9:30 with a parade starting in front of Safeway, complete with a Boys' State band. The line of march of 125 participants will be to the state Capitol, where the group will go into legislative session. Taking part form Carson are Mike Griffin, Tom Whitehead, Keith Lee, Wayne Hillygus, John Blaikie and Pat Allison.

20 YEARS AGO

Carson residents may get to rumble down memory lane if a proposed Harley Davidson Motor Cycle Museum goes according to plans.
