Lyon County District Attorney Robert L. Auer filed for re-election Monday morning in Yerington.
Since taking office in 2007 he has made internal changes that he feels resulted in improved efficiency, he said.
One change was the start of a fully integrated case management system that can accurately track cases and produce charging documents. Other changes include a structured charging policy seeking justice with consideration to victims and law enforcement.
As district attorney, Auer and his deputies have obtained convictions in two murder cases, numerous sexual assault cases, child abuse cases, child protection and elder protection cases.
"Our prosecutors win trials and appeals. Appeals are an important constitutional function of the criminal justice system that people often forget exists but require talent and detailed attention and our office is successful in keeping those we prosecute in prison," he said in a news release.
Auer said he started a regional approach to fighting drug crimes and drug trafficking, working closely with district attorneys in the surrounding counties and state and county law enforcement agencies.
Auer said he is also pleased to have started a regional approach to gang awareness through prosecution, prevention and intervention.
Auer said his active participation in regional gang task forces, as well as prosecution of gang related crimes in Lyon County is a commitment to his no-tolerance policy to gangs in Lyon County.
He said his commitment and success in collecting child support garnered the county substantial incentives from the state, which have been reinvested in new technology, security and improvements to the child support collection services to the public.
"We have started really strong and I plan to finish with even more effort, more service to the public, and more results for every area of Lyon County," he said.
