Carson Mall will host a music performance and discussion at 2-3 p.m. Tuesday, March 9, about a new string orchestra class to be held at Carson High School in fall 2010. The free event will be at the mall, 1313 S. Carson St., in Carson City.

Carson City Symphony's education director, Sue Kitts (violinist) and Jacki Montgomery (guitarist) will perform. Kitts will answer questions about the new high school class, and a representative from Play Your Own Music will discuss instrument rentals.

The String Orchestra ensemble will be open to all orchestral string players - violin, viola, cello, and contrabass - regardless of experience. Home-schooled students as well as public-school students are eligible. The fall class is presented by Carson High School in partnership with the Carson City Symphony Association and will fulfill the humanities/

occupational graduation requirement.
