Retired U.S. Navy Cmdr. Kirk Lippold will be the keynote speaker at Saturday's Carson City Republican convention.
The convention in the Carson High School library opens its doors at 9:30 a.m. with business scheduled to start at 10 a.m.
Lippold was commander of the USS Cole when it was damaged by a terrorist bomb in October 2000. The Carson City native is scheduled to speak at 11:30 a.m.
GOP headquarters manager Carol Howell said because Washoe and Carson City Republicans are holding conventions at the same time, state legislative and local candidates will be in Carson City in the morning and those running for governor, U.S. Senate and Congress will arrive just before lunch. Among those expected to attend are gubernatorial candidates Brian Sandoval and Mike Montandon.
Registration is $10 for the convention, which includes lunch.
