BOULDER CITY - The pilot of a small plane is dead after his aircraft crashed in the desert near the Boulder City Airport.

City spokeswoman Rose Ann Miele says the pilot was flying from Phoenix and above Lake Mead Friday when he made a distress call to the airport saying he was running out fuel.

FAA spokesman Ian Gregor says the pilot was the lone occupant of the Beechcraft BE35 Bonanza when it went down south of the Boulder airport around 4:30 p.m.

The plane was en route from Deer Valley Airport in north Phoenix to Henderson.

The pilot's identity was not immediately available.
