Watch dog: A Connecticut man has invented a watch-dog for the protection of buildings ... a small lamp illuminates the eyes, the tail pumps a quantity of compressed air into a cylinder ... the air escapes slowly through the dog's vicious looking teeth in such a manner that when the animal is placed on the front porch, it growls all night in a most alarming manner.

120 YEARS AGO

All sorts: Jack Furlong has just received a carload of United States Beer. John Piper's smiling face was in the box office last night so was the rest of his anatomy. Sam Longabaugh expects 20,000 cords of wood down the Carson river the coming season.

70 YEARS AGO

Seen, Heard or Thought: District Judge Clark J. Guild charges the loss of an auto license plate to souvenir hunters. He parked his car near a large Reno business and went to the premier showing of "Virginia City."

50 YEARS AGO

Children's Home to remain as is according to a formal statement denying rumors that it will be turned into an "institution for delinquent and retarded children."

20 YEARS AGO

Public access channel 35 made its debut with Mike Kelley in a three-hour live broadcast that included an interview of the girls from the Pinkerton Dance Academy.

Senator Bryan will marshal the 2000 Nevada Day Parade. This will be the first official three-day celebration. "I could think of no greater honor than to be the grand marshal of the Nevada Day Parade during my last official year in public office."
