Senior League begins on April 1

The second season of the Eagle Valley Senior Men's League gets under way on April 1 at 9 a.m. on the East course.

The cost to join the Senior Men's League is $50. This includes membership to the regular men's club, the Senior League and all the NNGA dues required for a GHIN number. If you are a member at another golf course, the fee to join the Senior Men's League is $20.00. New members are joining daily and our goal is to sign up as many more as

The weekly fee of $30 includes green fees, cart, weekly game and lunch regardless of which course is played. Pass holders will pay a weekly fee of $10.00 for the game and lunch.  Senior punch card holders must pay the senior cart fee (if riding) and $10.00 for the game and lunch. When playing the West course, the senior punch card holders must pay $30.

Parent meeting for

First Tee slated

RENO - The First Tee of Northern Nevada (www.tftnn.org) will be holding a special parent meeting on Saturday, March 20th, from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Carson Plaza Hotel.

This free event is recommended for families who would like to learn more about junior golf programs offered by The First Tee of Northern Nevada at Eagle Valley Golf Course.

Meeting topics include an overview of The First Tee Golf & Life Skills Education classes, class levels and progression, and opportunities to participate in local and national golf, leadership, and education opportunities.

Liza Schumacher-Maupin, executive director, will provide an overview of The First Tee Golf & Life Skills programs, including class levels and progression. She will also explain eligibility and application processes for educational, leadership and playing opportunities unique to The First Tee such as The First Tee Open at Pebble Beach, Toro Future Leaders Forum at Walt Disney World, Life Skills and Leadership Academies, and The First Tee Scholars program. Students selected for these special events participate at no cost to their families.

Table tennis group

The Carson City Table Tennis is seeking new members.

Bulldogs fare well

at junior tourney

The Carson Bulldogs wrestling squad fared well at last weekend's State USA Tournament in Winnemucca.

The McDonald brothers, Willy (Cadet, 112) and Ricky (Junior, 171), both placed second in freestyle and folkstyle in their respective classes. Sean Merritt, wrestling in the cadet 145-pound class, took third in free style and third in folkstyle. Carson High's Jordan Luhrs was third in freestyle and fourth in folkstyle in the Cadet 140-pound class. At 125, CHS's Austin Brown was fifth in greco, seventh in freestyle and third in folkstyle. Cole McCarthy, wrestling in the Cadet 119-pound division, was second in freestyle and second in folkstyle. Riley Hutchings (105) was fourth in greco, fifth in freestyle and seventh in folkstyle. Tristan Wadsworth (105) was third in folkstyle, while Nicholas Lani (112) was second in greco.

In the Bantam 40 division, Gabriel Lee was second in greco, second in freestyle and second in folkstyle. In Bantam 55, Jared Walker was fourth in greco and seventh in freestyle. In Bantam 65, Garrett Nussbaumer was first in greco, third in freestyle, and second in folkstyle.

In the Intermediate group, Buddy McDonald was sixth in greco.

Cody Cunningham, competing in the Schoolboy division, was first in greco, second in freestyle and second in folkstyle at 128 pounds. At 136 pounds, Brady Rivera was second in greco, second in freestyle and second in folkstyle. Colby Brown, also competing in the Schoolboy division, was fourth in folkstyle at 105 pounds. Also competing in the same division and the same weight class as Brown was Brady O'Keefe, who waqs second in greco, third in freestyle and eighth in folkstyle.

Brandon Basa, competing in the Novice 60-pound division, was third in greco, fifth in freestyle and fourth in folkstyle. Matthew McCarthy (85 pounds) was sixth in folkstyle.

The top eight in each event qualified for the upcoming Western Regionals In Idaho June 20-26.

Role Models alone

in first place

The Role Models lead the Mosconi division in the Carson City chapter of the American Poolplayers Association.

The Role Models have 40 points, four ahead of Big Dogs, Jerry's Kids and Twisted Attitudes.

Casey Richards of Support Rackless Habits leads the 4-5 tier with 34 points, 13 ahead of Trouble Makers' William Kenson and 14 ahead of Christopher McMahon of Role Models. Alex Gutierrez of Role Models and David Giovacchini of Jerry's Kids are tied for the top spot in the 6-7 tier. Jason Brendel of Twisted Attitudes leads the 2-3 tier with 23 points, three ahead of Brandy Delaney of Cues Yer Daddy.

Scratch Masters has maintained its lead in the Comstock group. Scratch Masters has 717 points, Twisted Stix is second with 692 and Do Work is third with 683. Kirsten Kehe of Twisted Stix leads the 4-5 tier with 30 points, six ahead of Stacey Dauphne of Rattlers. Frederick Osterhagen and Don Allred, both of Scratch Masters, are ted for the top spot in the 6-9 tier. Gloria Rodriguez of Twisted Stix leads the 1-3 tier with 27 points, two better than James Panos of Scratch Masters.

Taekwondo titles

Ten students from Chi Kwan Taekwondo won state titles on March 6 in Las Vegas.

Annhya Clarkson, Leo Miranda, Anuttham Kandhadai, Fritz Filson, Sashank Kandhadai, Garrett Damico, Vidhi Pandit, Dillon Damico, Saeed Mobaligh, Varun Pandit, Natalia Filson and Emiliano Miranda.

The local athletes will represent Nevada at the U.S. Junior Olympics in Florida June 28-July 4.
