Seaman Robert T. Gentry graduated from basic combat training at Great Lakes Naval Base, Ill., on Dec. 30.

During the eight weeks of basic combat training the recruit studied the Navy mission, organization, military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, received physical training and pistol marksmanship.

He graduated from Master at Arms/Military Police training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, on Feb. 26. While at Lackland, he advanced to sharpshooter in his pistol training.

Gentry is the son of Glen Gentry and Linda Gentry of Carson City and grandson of Ron and Barbara Hughes of Yerington. Gentry grew up in Carson City. His stepfather, Bruce Manning served 20 years in the United States navy as did his great-grandfather and great uncle.

Gentry will be serving at Offutt Air Force Base near Omaha, Neb.

Army Pvt. Jeremiah A. Gray has graduated from the Basic Field Artillery Cannon Crewmember Advanced Individual Training course at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla.

The course is designed to train servicemembers to maintain, prepare and load ammunition for firing; operate and perform operator maintenance on prime movers, self-propelled Howitzers, and ammunition vehicles; store, maintain, and distribute ammunition to using units as a member of battery or battalion ammunition section; perform crew maintenance and participate in organizational maintenance of weapons and related equipment; and establish and maintain radio and wire communications.

Gray is the son of Kevin E. Gray of N. Rainbow Road, and brother of Janelle M. Gray of N. Fall St., both of Carson City.

The private is a 2007 graduate of Carson High School, Carson City.

Army Spec. Jason R. Sebring has returned to Fort Richardson, Anchorage, Alaska, after being deployed to Afghanistan for one year. The soldier is one of 3,500 members of the 4th Airborne Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), 25th Infantry Division stationed at Fort Richardson. Airborne combat team members included soldiers assigned to one of six battalions and regiments of the 25th Infantry Division.

The airborne brigade served in three eastern provinces of Afghanistan, which included the Paktya, Paktika and Khost. Some of the challenges the brigade soldiers faced included poverty, unemployment, security, and management of natural resources and government institutions. Soldiers improved roads, provided vocational training in construction and civics, improved and re-opened 29 schools, remodeled six medical clinics and improved three district courthouses.

Sebring, a fire team leader, is normally assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 509th Parachute Infantry Regiment. He has served in the military for two years.

He is the son of Barry and Pamela Sebring of Quinn Drive, Carson City.
