Velma "Dolores" Watkins

Velma "Dolores" Watkins, 93, a Carson City resident, passed away May 1, 2010 in Carson City. Dolores was born Jan. 24, 1917 in Belleville, Kan., to Grover Leroy Neal and Bessie Leona Hoffman.

She spent the majority of her life working with various federal government agencies, retiring in 1973 from the Bureau of Public Roads. In 1944 she married Kenneth Watkins, and they moved to Nevada in 1965, then moved to Idaho for a short period of time but moved back to Nevada for good.

Dolores loved traveling with Ken. Together they traveled throughout the world. Dolores was a member of the Eastern Star since 1951 in Anchorage, Alaska.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Watkins, who passed away in 2008; her mother and father; sisters Wilma Babnik, Marion Brinkmeier, Ramona Roberts and Judy Browning; and brothers Jerry Quick and Charles Neal. She is survived by a brother, Kenneth Neal, and sisters Phyllis Davis, June McCaleb and Pat Hollowell, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Inurnment for both Dolores and Kenneth will take place at the Northern Nevada Veterans Cemetery in Fernley. Walton's Chapel of the Valley is in charge of final arrangements.
