The Carson City Board of Supervisors will hear a presentation Thursday of the proposed 2010-11 budget, which includes the general fund, enterprise funds and all other funds.
According to Finance Director Nick Providenti, the goal is to balance the budget by, among other things, reducing programs, freezing salaries and implementing a voluntary separation program and cutback list.
The board is not scheduled to take action on the budget.
Also on the Thursday agenda are:
• A presentation of the proposed 2010-11 fiscal year budget for the Redevelopment Authority.
• Introduction of an ordinance to increase sewer use fees 14 percent effective July 1 to operate, maintain and meet debt operations for the system. Also to be introduced is an ordinance to increase water rates 30 percent by July 1 primarily to pay for the waterline connection between Carson City and Douglas County. The rate hike hearing is set for 2 p.m.
• Action to select the Historic Preservation Awards for 2010, including Noreen Humphreys for historic preservation efforts, The Edwards House for incorporating renewable energy, Carter and Peggy Twedt for an addition and remodel, and Kilpatrick, Johnston & Adler for an addition to the Frank Norcross House.
• Action to accept the recommendation of the Open Space Advisory Committee to pursue efforts with the Nevada Commission for Reconstruction of the V&T Railway in order to purchase properties owned by Don Bently in the Carson River Canyon.
• Action to direct staff to investigate leasing, lease-purchase or purchase of the former Fireside Building, 108 E. Proctor St., for a possible location for a Business Resource Center to accommodate the offices of planning, building, business license and business development.
• Action to adopt an ordinance amendment adding a definition for criminal gangs, declaring areas where they congregate as nuisances and authorizing the district attorney to take certain actions.
• Action to approve the collective bargaining agreement between the city and the Carson City Fire Department Classified Chief Officers Association.
• Action to approve an addendum to the collective bargaining agreement between the city and the Carson City Employees Association.
