May workshops at Full Circle Compost

Full Circle Compost will host the hands-works workshop "Build Your Own Raised Beds, and Drip Irrigation" at 11 a.m.-2 p.m. today at the garden center.

Full Circle is located at 3190 U.S. Highway 395, Minden, across from Silver City RV Park.

Topics will include: Building your own raised beds - soil fertility, supplies, structure, layout & design; How to layout a successful "Drip Irrigation" system; Native plants and others that grow well in Nevada.

Greenhouse May seminars announced

Greenhouse Garden Center hosts free gardening seminars most weekends. The center is located at 2450 S. Curry St.

The following seminars are scheduled this month:

• 9 a.m. May 15 - Let's Talk Tomatoes and Peppers

• 9 a.m. May 22 - Continuous Summer Color with Perennials

• 9 a.m. May 29 -Growing Grapes and Berries In Northern Nevada

• 11 a.m. May 29 - Container Planting with Janet

New wildfire risk guide available

The Institute for Business Home Safety (IBHS) has released a new guidelines to protect property from the ravages of wildfire.

The information pertains to homes and businesses, including farms and ranches, and is available in electronically and as hard copy printed brochures suitable for mailing or distributing at events.

The printed series comprises three property-specific brochures for residential, commercial, and farms and ranches.

The IBHS guidelines are based on information from professional fire services and wildfire research.
