Obituary: Essie Marie Paulk Cary

Our beloved Essie Marie (also known as "Nanner" to her grandchildren) was born July 7, 1916, in Marietta, Okla., and passed April 3, 2010, in Prescott Valley, Ariz. She married Levi Paulk on Oct. 1937. They lived in California and raised their children James, Wayne and Betty while Levi worked for the Department of Forestry and Essie as a pharmacy clerk. Upon their retirement, they moved to Stagecoach until Levi passed in May 1981. Essie moved to Carson City and remarried November 1993 to Chris Cary and moved to Prescott Valley. Essie was an active member of her church, she enjoyed socializing and was very active in her grandchildren's lives. She especially enjoyed visiting friends and family and always was a gracious hostess. She lived her life with passion, whether playing a friendly game of dominos, loving a family member, or making new friends. She will always be remember for her beautiful smile and kind spirit. She will be greatly missed. Essie is survived by her husband Chris Cary; her three children; grandchildren Janet, John, Tiger, Kimberly, Janel, Nicole, Todd, Rodney, Ty and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband Levi; parents James and Mattie Brown; and her many brothers and sister. A celebration of life will be at 2 p.m. May 28, 2010, at Lone Mtn. Cemetery, Carson City. In lieu of flowers, a memorial may be made to Alzheimer's Association, 225 Grove Ave., Prescott, AZ 86301.
