Out & About: Local middle schools plan grad events

Carson Middle School and Eagle Valley Middle School graduations are coming soon. Each year, both schools provide an after graduation celebration for all the students promoted to high school. The organizers can use donations big and small for decorations, food, snacks, cases of water, and fun games, face painting - anything teens would enjoy for these wonderful parties. Also I want to congratulate the district. This will be the first year I have seen the middle schools promotion dates set on different days. Thank goodness to all those grandparents, aunt and uncles and extended family and friends that used to have to run from one promotion to the next or choose between them. Note to parents: Eagle Valley Middle School will host their promotion party, "Fun in the Sun" on Friday following release for all the 8th graders to enjoy the last day of fun reminiscing. You can contact each school to see what donations are needed and help create a positive safe environment for children to celebrate a great achievement. Give them a call at the numbers below.

8th GRADE PROMOTION DRESSES AVAILABLE

To all the parents of young ladies graduating from 8th grade at either middle school, the dresses remaining from the Carson High Prom dress collection that are suitable for 8th grade promotion will be at the middle schools starting Tuesday. Please contact the school at the above numbers or have your daughters go in and ask about dresses for graduation.

The community really stepped up this year and Shelia Story and Wendy Bacon the amazing nurses at Carson High School both said this year more dresses were given out then any other year. Thanks to you the readers and the three outstanding businesses and their owners; Body and Soul, Linda Martin and her staff; Sugar Pine Cove, Terri Basa; and Salon Chocolat, Sarah Keron and all the ladies in the salon, for soliciting donations and accepting the beautiful items. These are great establishments in town. A special thank you to Soroptimist International of Carson City for starting this program many years ago. Every girl that received a dress to the prom will never forget the kindness.

COCONUTS FOR KIDS LUAU AT THE GOVERNOR'S MANSION

As I was at Carson High in the nurse's office and talking to CHS culinary teacher Penny Reynolds, it was stated that children are hungry. That breaks me on so many levels. We can send money overseas but we do have children in need of food right here, right now. A quick reminder to support the upcoming Food for Thought benefit being held next weekend. This program provides weekend food for up to 700 hungry and in-need children in Northern Nevada. Amazing! Thank you to St. Teresa Auxiliary and Nevada Bell Telephone Pioneers for quietly assisting in high school food donations. So many teens eat because of your generosity.

WHAT: The theme is Hawaiian, live and silent auctions, great food, and entertainment

WHERE: Governor's Mansion

WHEN: 4 p.m. Saturday, May 22
