Harland Robert Moose was born on January 3, 1923, to David and Lillian (Wilson) Moose. He passed away on May 22, 2010.
Dad was born and raised in Stewart, Nev., attending Carson High School, where he was an avid athlete. The Carson City Senators won state basketball tournaments during this time, with Dad playing as a guard and winning several medals in other sports; football, boxing, track and field.
Working in Hawthorne after graduation as a truck driver, Dad was drafted in the U.S. Army, serving three years in the Pacific Theatre of WWII, attaining the rank of "Buck" sargent. Retiring from maintenance work for Washoe County, Whittenburg Hall, he finished his work days. In earlier years, he was also an outstanding car painter, working in Carson City and Reno.
The second oldest of five children, he is preceded in death by parents; brothers Edward, Robert and wife Betty "Doyle" Moose. He is survived by sister Doris Ivanskis; daughters Ellen Brock (Bill), Janet Moose (Darryl), Linda Johnson (Curt), and Roberta Moose (Shaun Gilbert); grandchildren Kate and Eric Brock.
There will be a graveside service a 1 p.m. Saturday, May 29 at Stewart Indian Cemetery in Stewart (Carson City), located on Clear Creek Road. All family and friends are invited to a remembrance of life at 3514 Arcadia, Carson City, after the service.
