Elections - scenes and incidents: The election was exciting and early in the morning every voter no matter how late he had crawled onto bed was up and stirring ... ticket peddlers were out in full force. The sun rose on time, the polls were open and the band started "March through Georgia," (played 329 times by actual count in front of the French hotel). The polls were situated at the old stamping ground of political controversy, The Currie engine house.

Big Baby: Tony Flint was presented with a ten pound baby and sent the office two bottles of wine. We are ready to receive the other eight bottles at any time.

70 YEARS AGO

Nevada Day visitors: Nevada highway department automatic counters shows that 4,825 cars entered the capital city and brought the estimated total of persons to 16,885 for Admission Day. The Virginia and Truckee special train brought 230 passengers.

50 YEARS AGO

Miss Nevada Day: Five entrants are contestants for Nevada Day: Sharon Winters, Nancy Franklin, Gwen Breen, Mary Louise Maho and Sherri Simmons.

The Ormsby House shut down for a $10 million overhaul to transform the 30-year-old building into a five-star hotel.
