ELKO (AP) - Elko County Sheriff-elect Jim Pitts says he wants to cut overtime, get deputies on the street and make narcotics and juvenile crime high priorities.
The former sheriff's detective won election Tuesday over Ken Wellington, 54 percent to
46 percent in unofficial results reported by the Elko County clerk.
In his concession, Wellington thanked his supporters and said he looked forward to seeing Pitts' management plan.
Pitts will replace Sheriff Dale Lotspeich.
Pitts tells the Elko Daily Free Press the campaign made it the toughest job he ever applied for.
Key issues included department staffing and overtime and sheriff's office involvement in drug interdiction and juvenile crime enforcement.
