(AP) - Gov. Jim Gibbons has appointed a Reno lawyer to the Nevada State Board of Education.

Adriana Fralick currently serves as general counsel for the Nevada Public Utilities Commission. She's also former counsel to the governor's office and Nevada Commission on Ethics.

Gibbons announced her appointment Thursday to fill the unexpired term of Ken McKenna, who resigned in August. Fralick will serve on the 10-member board until the general election in 2012.

The board sets education policy for school districts around the state.

Members are elected on a nonpartisan ballot for four-year terms.
