ELKO (AP) - Elko County District Attorney-elect Mark Torvinen says he knows the job he's taking on.

The deputy district attorney was unopposed Tuesday in his bid for a second stint as the top county prosecutor.

He'll replace District Attorney Gary Woodbury, who hired Torvinen as a deputy in 2001. Woodbury is retiring.

Torvinen also served as Elko County DA from 1985-1990 before losing a bid for state court judge.

Torvinen tells the Elko Daily Free Press he and Woodbury have known each other since their days as partners in a law firm in the 1990s.

Elko County chief public defender Fred Lee tells the Free Press that Torvinen should do well as DA.
