BOULDER CITY - The Carson High girls cross country team shoots for its second straight NIAA 4A state championship today at Veteran's Park.

The first race is at 10 a.m. with races going off every 45 minutes thereafter. The final race is set for 1:45 p.m.

Carson easily beat out Arbor View for last year's title, but Palo Verde, led by Katie Gorczyca and Kelsi Koch, is probably the favorite entering today's race

Carson will be depending heavily on two freshmen, Cindy Juchtzer and Alex Drozdoff, in today's race. April Shonnard, who apparently was suffering from dehydration, was Carson's seventh runner last week at regionals. If healthy, Shonnard should be one of Carson's top three finishers.

Brent Moyle is Carson's lone representative for the boys. he finished ninth at last week's regionals. Carson's team missed by a point of advancing to state to defend its title.

Sierra Lutheran qualified both of its boys and girls teams for the 2A race. Nathanael Williams and Becky Grabow won individual championships at regionals and are expected to do well today.
