Obituary: Gloria Rose Cogorno

Gloria Rose Cogorno passed peacefully on Nov. 4, 2010. She was born in Los

Angeles on June 18, 1924, to Italian immigrants, Vincenzo and Guisipina

Ferrarino. She went to school speaking only Italian and quickly learned her

second language, English. She later taught English to several non-English

speaking students at Belmont High School in Los Angeles where she was a

graduate in 1942.

Gloria met her husband of 65 years, Steve Cogorno, at an Italian picnic in

Montebello, Calif., and they were married in 1944. She moved with her

family to Carson City in 1956, where she and her husband were actively

involved in the custom home construction and land development businesses.

With her husband they pursued the American Dream. He came to America with

pennies in his pocket, and she came from the Depression era with only one

parent. Together they built a solid legacy for their daughters,

grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Gloria was a member of the Altar Society of St. Teresa of Avila Church,

Soroptimists, and the Desert Garden Club but her passion was her family.

She was always entertaining and preparing meals centered on her Italian

heritage. She loved everyone to be around her kitchen table.

Gloria was predeceased by her parents and her husband. She is survived by

her daughter, Stephanie Miles and her husband, Dan Miles, of Carson City;

her daughter, Pamela Robinson of Sparks; her grandchildren, Amy Miles

Robinson (Scott) of Carson City; Katie Miles Armstrong (Tom) of Carson City;

Kimberly Robinson Moore (Gregg) of Sparks; and Steven Robinson (Lynda) of

Reno; her great-grandchildren, Brooke and Shane Robinson, Natalia Armstrong,

Jacob Olson, Jordan Moore, Justine Moore, Ashley Robinson, Hunter Robinson

and Kaley Robinson; her sister, Norma Campini, of Temecula, Calif.; and

three nephews, Steve Campini, Don Campini (Michelle), and John Campini, of

Temecula.

Funeral services are under the direction of Walton's Chapel of the Valley in

Carson City and will be held on Thursday, Nov. 11 at 11 a.m.

The family wishes to give special thanks to the entire staff at Sierra Vista

Senior Living where Gloria lived for the past year, and especially to Norma

Childers for her kind and compassionate care.
