Price, Canadiens end Vancouver's 6-game win streak

MONTREAL (AP) - Carey Price made 35 saves for his second shutout and the Montreal Canadiens ended Vancouver's six-game winning streak with a 2-0 victory over the Canucks on Tuesday night.

Andrei Markov and Roman Hamrlik scored for Montreal, which had lost three of four.

Price recorded his sixth career shutout, including a 19-save effort in a 3-0 win in Ottawa on Oct. 23.

Roberto Luongo stopped 27 shots for Vancouver, which began a five-game road trip. Lightning 4, Maple Leafs 0

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - Steven Stamkos scored two goals, Dan Ellis had his second shutout of the season and the Lightning handed the Maple Leafs their sixth straight loss.

Stamkos scored the first goal of the game during the first period and extended the Lightning's advantage to 4-0 with his 13th goal this season with 14:14 remaining in the third. Ellis stopped 28 shots, including a pair of in-close chances by Tyler Bozak with just under two minutes to play in the second.

Nate Thompson and Dominic Moore also scored for the Lightning, who stopped a three-game losing skid.

The Maple Leafs have been outscored 19-8 - including being shutout three times - during a six-game skid. Toronto also has just one win in its last nine games. Hurricanes 7, Oilers 1

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Joe Corvo scored two power-play goals for the struggling unit, Eric Staal had four assists and Carolina scored four times in the first 7 1/2 minutes.

The Hurricanes forced an early change in the Edmonton net, taking a 4-0 lead against Nikolai Khabibulin on just eight shots.

Patrick Dwyer scored 26 seconds in after a rush down the ice, putting in Brandon Sutter's shot off the pads of Khabibulin and starting the onslaught. Erik Cole scored 49 seconds later on the power play.

Edmonton, playing the second of a five-game U.S. road trip, has been outscored 21-10 in the first period this season. Capitals 5, Rangers 3

NEW YORK (AP) - Matt Hendricks' third-period goal gave Washington its first lead and sent the Capitals to their season-high fifth straight victory.

The Capitals beat the Rangers for the fourth consecutive time. Washington is 9-1-1 in its last 11 against New York and 4-0-1 at Madison Square Garden over three seasons.

Washington got offense from Brooks Laich, John Erskine, and Mike Knuble. Laich added his second into an empty net with 5.6 seconds left.

Brian Boyle had two goals and Rangers enforcer Derek Boogaard netted his first in nearly five years. New York squandered three one-goal leads and lost for the third time in four games. Senators 5, Thrashers 2

OTTAWA (AP) - Jason Spezza scored two goals and the Senators extended their winning streak to four straight.

Senators goalie Brian Elliott, making his 11th straight start, stopped 35 shots. Chris Neil and Jesse Winchester score their first goals of the season, and Sergei Gonchar also scored for Ottawa (8-6-1).

Andrew Ladd and Anthony Stewart scored power-play goals for the Thrashers (6-6-3).

Atlanta's Chris Mason started, but was pulled after allowing four goals on 18 shots. Ondrej Pavelec allowed one goal on 11 shots. Flames 4, Avalanche 2

DENVER (AP) - Curtis Glencross scored twice, Miikka Kiprusoff had 29 saves and the Flames beat Colorado to end a four-game losing streak.

David Moss and Mikael Backlund also scored and Rene Bourque had two assists for the Flames.

Brandon Yip and Chris Stewart scored for Colorado and Peter Budaj stopped 21 shots.
