Documentary of V&T to be presented Saturday

The Northern Nevada Railway Foundation will present a public viewing of the "V&T Lives," a documentary of the reconstruction project, at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Galaxy Theatre behind Casino Fandango. Cost is $6.75 per

person.

The DVD is sponsored by Sierra Nevada Realtor's Association and the Northern Nevada Railway Foundation.

Tickets for the viewing to be purchased at the Galaxy Theatre. The "V&T Lives" documentary DVD will be on sale for $24.99 - Blue Ray $29.99. Proceeds from the DVD sales are going to the Nevada Commission for the Reconstruction of the V&T Railway.

U.S. Marines will raise the flag in honor of Veterans at 8 a.m. today at the Sierra Place senior living community, 1111 W. College Parkway.

Marv Richardville will lead patriotic songs followed by a continental breakfast. From 2:30-4 p.m., Norma Conway will present a USO Performances and Dance event featuring Bob Reed on piano, playing big band era music. Linda Merell-Arnn, will sing "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy." The Three Marilyn Monroes will sing "Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend," and Marv and Joe will present comedy skit of "Who's On First." There will also be demonstration of swing dance and other performers.

Cohen, Woodbury to be honored at Eagle Scout Court of Honor

An Eagle Scout Court of Honor will be held for Alan Cohen and Aaron Woodbury at 7 p.m. Saturday in the Laxalt Building, 401 N. Carson St.

Friends and family are invited to attend.

Eagle Scout is the highest rank that can be attained by Scouts. Only 4 percent of youth who join Scouting earn this honor.

Volunteers needed for planting in wetlands at Washoe Lake State Park

As part of ongoing efforts to control noxious weeds in Washoe Lake State Park's wetlands, the Washoe-Pleasant Valley Cooperative Weed Management group, Audubon TogetherGreen and Nevada State Parks are inviting people of all ages to spend a morning planting native plants.

The event will be from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Saturday at the wetlands viewing deck located off Highway 395, exit 44, on the south side of Washoe Lake.

Model T restorer conducts seminar Saturday

The Silver State Model T Ford Club will host nationally recognized Model T engine restorer Milt Webb at a Model T transmission reassembly seminar at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at 35 Lewers Creek Road, West Washoe Valley.

2012: End of the world? Learn more Wednesday

The Leisure Hour Club will hold its next dinner/lecture meeting at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 17 at the Carson City Nugget.

The speaker will be Michael Thomas, president of the Western Nevada Astronomical Society, who will speak on "2012 The End of the World." Michael will discuss the "world end" paranoia, and in particular, the Mayan calendar's supposed predictions.

The Leisure Hour is Carson City's the oldest club. Their motto is "Learning grows from more to more." Reservations for dinner are required. Cost is $21.50 per person.

Black & White Gala planned at Gold Dust West

Carson Tahoe Regional Healthcare Auxiliary presents the Black & While Holiday Luncheon Gala Dec. 11 at Gold Dust West. on East William Street.

Social hour and a bake sale will be at 11 a.m., with a Surf & Turf lunch served at noon.

The luncheon will be accompanied by Christmas carolers, a "White House/Black Market" fashion show, ballroom dance exhibitions and a raffle drawing with lots of prizes.

The event is open to the public. Cost is $30. Attendees are encouraged to wear their best black, white or silver Nevada attire.
