A mean theft: One of the Appeal's delinquent subscribers have stolen the collar and tag off our dog "Abe," tag numbered 18. Any peace officer finding a dog with that tag will please forward tag, dog and owner to this office.

120 YEARS AGO

The Lottery: U.S. Marshal James Moore has received instructions from Washington to keep his eyes open and "copper" all violators of the Lottery Law ... directions are to bring them before the Grand Jury and prosecute to the full extent of the law. Violators are found at church raffles, drawing games, etc. ... the prime mover is to uphold morality.

70 YEARS AGO

Senator Pat McCarran advised the Appeal that Nevada has been allotted WPA funds in the amount of $89,159 for a statewide project that includes preparing and serving school lunches without cost to under nourished and needy children.

50 YEARS AGO

Photo caption: Coaches Harry Dickson and Dave McDonald are pictured with Carson Senators. Dickson was honored by the Sierra-Nevada Sportswriters and Broadcasters who named him "Athlete of the month" for his work in building Carson City from a second-rate football power to undefeated winners of the northern Nevada AA conference.

20 YEARS AGO

Nevada's four dry years are continuing on into a fifth with reservoirs low and precipitation down by 25 percent. According to John James, the state climatologist, a fifth dry year could bring grave problems to some areas of the state.

10 YEARS AGO

Virginia City remembers veterans with a parade beginning with a pair of F-18 Hornet jets and then a carillon at St. Mary's in the Mountains Catholic Church.
