Turkey Trot to benefit Pinkerton Ballet

Feasters can ease some of their guilt by running in the Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning, while at the same time supporting the holiday classic, "The Nutcracker."

"It's a nice family event to start Thanksgiving," said Molly Walt, president of the Pinkerton Ballet Theatre.

Walt is organizing the second annual run to raise money for the annual Pinkerton production, which costs about $55,000.

"We have to fund raise to support ticket sales," she said.

Races begin at 8:30 and 9 a.m. at the north Starbuck's, 3228 N. Carson St., suite 15.

The course - which is 3.66 miles, about a 5.8K - heads up G.S Richards Boulevard and Silver Oak, then west around the hospital before looping back to the start.

"It's a nice run," Walt said. "It's all pavement, and besides a few hills it's rather flat."

There will also be a mile fun run for kids, which will begin at 8:30 a.m. The race begins at 9 a.m.

Walt said last year's brisk weather made for a good running conditions.

"It was a nice fall run," she said. "We're hoping for good weather this year."

Advanced registration is $25. It will be $30 on race day. To register, mail cash or checks to Pinkerton Ballet Theatre, P.O. Box 2792 Carson City, NV 89702.

"The Nutcracker" will be performed 7 p.m. Nov. 26-27 and 2 p.m. Nov. 28 at the Carson City Community Center, 851 E. William St.

Tickets are $23.50 for general admission and $19.50 for seniors and students, including arts support fee.
