LAS VEGAS (AP) - The USO's first airport lounge in Nevada is open in Las Vegas.

The 2,830-square-foot lounge at McCarran International Airport serves an estimated 55,000 troops who pass through the region each year on their way to and from assignments. It opened Thursday in time for Veterans Day, with entertainer Wayne Newton among those on hand.

The lounge has a snack bar, laptop and computer stations with Internet access, a video-gaming area, high-definition televisions and a movie theater but no showers or cots.

Center director Doug Bradford tells the Las Vegas Review-Journal that troops arriving after the center closes at midnight can stay for free at Homeward Suites motel.
