Lions club: The program was conducted by W. E. (Bill) Dunfield and included the history of astrology. Special guests were Lion Girls State representative Barbara Roventini and Lion parade float girls Mary Ann Collins and Mary Jo Doty.

Nuclear test: Four protesters were sighted near ground zero 105 miles northwest of Las Vegas just minutes before the weapon was to be detonated. The Greenpeace group delayed detonation in an attempt to halt testing for the British nuclear weapon.

Carson City's Brewery Arts Center gets a historically accurate facelift. The old building is being spiffed up with new sidewalks, walkways, and landscaping. "A big part of the job is engineering so the building will be protected during floods," according to Brewery Arts Executive Director Joe McCarthy.
