Obituary: James Oliver

James Oliver was born Aug. 17, 1932 in Carson City and passed away Nov. 10, 2010 in Reno. James grew up in Carson City, attending Carson schools, graduating high school in 1950, and attending the University of Nevada. After high school graduation, he proudly served four years in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, completing tours of duty on the USS Boxer, USS Essex, and USS Enterprise. He retired from state service as CEO of the Employment Security Department, and later worked at WNCC in the electronics department.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Bess Oliver; father, Jim Oliver; his sister, Nell Thomas; and his brother, Bill Oliver. Jim is survived by Melba, his wife of 57 years; nephew, Bill Oliver; nieces, Melba Hass, Genevieve Forch, and Susie Penn; and cousins, Jeannie Dyke, Jerry Buzick, and Dennis Barry, all of Carson City.

A funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, Nov. 18, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 3597 North Sunridge Drive, Carson City. Burial will be in Walton's Carson Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Walton's Chapel of the Valley.
