(AP) - A Nov. 29 hearing is set to consider new regulations governing energy efficiency evaluations of residential homes in Nevada.
A law passed by the 2007 Legislature requires a seller to provide an energy audit if requested by a buyer. The audit can be waived by mutual consent.
Nevada's energy commissioner must finalize a regulation implementing the law that takes effect Jan. 1.
Two workshops have been held and about 1,400 written comments received.
One sticking point is whether homeowners will be allowed to substitute a year's worth of utility bills and make other disclosures about the age of appliances and home improvements to satisfy the requirement.
Real estate agents favor that option.
But some conservation groups and energy efficiency advocates want such evaluations to be conducted by certified energy auditors.
