The spoils: There was a large gathering at the Armory of the Carson Guard to witness the distribution of prizes. There was a large sprinkling of ladies who came to see the soldier in their close fitting clothes and gaudy jackets. Captain Moger was the most elegant looking man with his moustache twirled and waxed to the finest possible point.

120 YEARS AGO

House of ill repute: Miss Abbott's narrow escape - "About a week ago I was calling on a young lady in San Francisco, when I met the landlady of the lodging house. She said she could get me a fine situation in Carson. I decided to accept the situation and was met at the train by a young man who asked me if I was the lady who was going to work for Miss Moore. When I heard about the character of the place, I knew where was going." The people of Carson immediately started a subscription at the Arlington to send the young girl back to San Francisco.

70 YEARS AGO

Leisure Hour: Dr. Effie Mona Mack, authority on Nevada history and co-author of a new history of Nevada will give a lecture at the Leisure Hour Club. In addition Edith Knippenberg will give a program on "Jamaica." Mrs. Denver Dickerson is hostess.

50 YEARS AGO

Lew Gourley: In recognition of his participating in commemorating the 40th anniversary of the first coast-to-coast airmail service, highway department aerial photographer Lew Gourley was awarded a special air mail scroll.

20 YEARS AGO

Veteran lawmaker Joe Dini of Yerington was chosen as Assembly speaker for a record fourth time.
