Spring registration begins Nov. 29

Enrollment for spring classes at Western Nevada College starts Monday, Nov. 29. Continuing students may begin enrolling online during the first week, and new students may begin on Monday, Dec. 6. More than 900 courses are available. Spring classes begin Monday, Jan. 24. Note: Anyone registering must now utilize a personal e-mail address to complete the process. Find out more at www.wnc.edu.

Carson galleries hosting artists

Western Nevada College offers a diverse series of art exhibits beginning Monday, Nov. 29, through the end of January. A public reception for the artists will be Wednesday, Dec. 8, 5-6:30 p.m., in the Bristlecone Building.

In the Main Gallery, South Lake Tahoe artist Alison Harris will exhibit her drawings in "Recent Works."

At the adjoining Atrium Gallery, Michelle Legras Peltier will exhibit "My Work is My Prayer." Peltier is the college's graphic designer as well as a fine artist who works in several media.

Artist Jill Brugler brings "Stream" to the College Gallery. She is a part-time art instructor at WNC teaching clay sculpture, ceramics and art fundamentals. The exhibit features clay pieces made from a combination of materials that speak to the artist's vision of the flow of a stream.

Employee giving campaign a success

Over the years, WNC employees have shown ongoing generosity to their school by donating to the Western Nevada College Foundation in support of students.

This year's employee giving campaign, "One Small Gift From You - One Giant Leap For Western," continues through Friday, Dec. 17. Already, 39 percent of Western employees support the foundation through payroll deduction. After just two weeks of the campaign, the number of faculty and staff donating had risen to 49 percent.

Class offers strategies for K-12 educators

Finding new ways to engage students of varying developmental levels can be challenging. WNC is offering Diversity Strategies in the Classroom (EPD 236B, Call #37402, .5 units) to assist teachers in learning techniques to reach students with varying levels of development, skill sets and language abilities. The class meets Saturday, Dec. 4, 9 a.m.-5 p.m., and cost is $37.38. Information: 445-3000, or visit www.wnc.edu to register.

College unveils 40th anniversary logo

Next year marks a milestone for Western Nevada College: its 40th anniversary. As part of the preparations, the college held a competition for a logo design among WNC graphic communication students. The winning design came from Chris Kemp of Mound House, who will have his work shown on the cover of the 2011 spring class schedule and in other commemorative materials produced during the year.
