Former Carson High standout Gloria Sosa was honored by the University of Nevada cross country team recently.

Nevada concluded its season on Nov. 13 with a disappointing 18th-place finish at the NCAA Mountain Region Championship.

Sosa earned the team's Sneak Attack Award, which was created specifically to honor the redshirt sophomore and the way in which she surprises coaches, teammates and competitors at meets.

Sosa finished 37th overall at the WAC Championships (18:57) and then finished 101st at the regional meet (23:05). Sosa was seventh in the Nevada Chase Race, 50th overall at the SunDodger Invitational (20:57) and a 75th at the Bronco Invitational.

Nineteen runners return for the 2011 season, giving coach Kirk Elias reason for being optimistic.
