Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Dan Gordon is offering a free safe driving course for young drivers 2:30-5:30 p.m. Dec. 1 at the Douglas County Judicial and Law Enforcement Center training room.

No registration is required and young drivers and their parents are invited. Students need not live in Douglas County to attend.

Gordon said the class is designed for drivers age 15 to their early 20s.

The program is interactive and in depth about issues facing young drivers and the consequences of their decisions behind the wheel and as passengers, he said.

The class covers driving distractions, peer pressure, alcohol, Nevada statutes, driving in bad weather, and basic vehicle maintenance.

Gordon said he focuses on inexperienced drivers, hoping to close the gap in information since driver's education classes have been eliminated from many school districts.

Gordon has 15 years in law enforcement including three years in Nevada as a highway patrol trooper.
