Smallpox: There are five cases in Virginia City and many Carson people are taking no time in getting vaccinated. There is little danger of the disease ever gaining any foothold in a city so cleanly kept as Carson. Those who wish to guard their homes against the disease should use carbolic acid in halls and rooms, and water closets should be well dosed with chloride or lime.

120 YEARS AGO

All sorts: The Yellow Jacket fire is now under control ... still smoldering. The Comstock has been treated to about an inch of snow.

70 YEARS AGO

50 YEARS AGO

Tidewater Oil and Standard Oil were awarded multiple contracts to furnish the state with gasoline at 28.5 cents per gallon regular and 33.5 cents per gallon ethyl.

Chads and dimples are no trouble in Nevada. "We've had close elections. We had a lot of recounts. But we never had any problems with them," said Bill Swackhamer, who served longer as secretary of state than anybody else.
