Raise Beards for Admission Day: Members of the Admission Day committee are concerned over the failure of most Carson City men to grow beards for the coming 76th anniversary celebration. Beard growing is one of the very best methods of living the spirit of Nevada's great day and advertising the event.

50 YEARS AGO

Advertisement: Attention Merchants! The Nevada Day Committee is again sponsoring a window decorating contest prior to the celebration on October 29, 30, 31. Trophies will be given as first and second awards with honorable mention for third place.

The Energy Department conducted a nuclear test at Yucca Flat. The test code-named Ledoux was conducted 75 miles northwest of Las Vegas. The nuclear device was buried in a shaft 1,000 feet beneath of surface of Yucca Flat. Explosive force of less than 20 kilotons.

Carson-Tahoe Hospital posted a $4.3 million net profit in 1999 according to a report from the State Health Care Financial Analysis Unit.
