PREP ROUNDUP: Yerington spikes Dust Devils

Dayton played powerhouse Yerington tough Friday night, but the Dust Devils fell in three games. Yerington won 25-22, 25-15 and 25-23.

"The team played really hard," said coach Monica Halverson. "They played well together."

Halverson said the team got a little tired in the second game. She said the Dust Devils battled back and got the momentum in the third game before Yerington took advantage of few mistakes.

Jamie Darragh led Dayton with four aces. Madison Foley added three. Amanda Arana led the team with eight digs, Kathie Arias had six, Foley four and McKenzie Kielty two. Foley had 10 kills, Darragh had seven, Arias and Taylor Hill both had four. Cassie Depew had four blocks, Kielty and Darragh both added two. Kielty led with 16 assists.

"She makes a lot of things happen for us," Halverson said of Kielty.

Dayton, 19-4 overall, faces Reed today in another non conference match.

MUCKERS FALL IN FIVE GAMES

VIRGINIA CITY - Sage Ridge knocked off Virginia City in five back and forth games, 14-25, 25-16, 21-25, 25-23 and 15-10.

Jamie Poston and Jill Dupre each had 10 kills for the Muckers. Denali Fickus had eight aces, Breanna Johnston added seven and Dupre six for Douglas. Dupre led the team with two blocks. Fickus led the team with 19 assists and Lea Laney and Johnston both had five digs.

Virginia City is 5-10 overall and 4-4 in league.

CROSSCOUNTRY

DAYTONHASFUN, RUNSWELLATRELAYS,

The Dayton cross country team competed in the South Tahoe Retro Relays on Friday. Dayton sent a varsity boys and girls team. The Dust Devils also had four runners run individually.

The relays, which have turned into a costume party, saw the boys team dress up like the band KISS, and the girls team dressed up like fairies. The girls JV team dressed up like cowgirls.

The four boys all ran their 2-mile legs within 38 seconds of each other, with Brian Hagedorn (13:57) leading the way Skyler Rose (13:58), Ethan Galloway (14:18), Aaron Elissa (14:35). The girls team was led by Katrina Breithaupt (15:03), Shanleigh Brethauer (16:14), Brenda Cid (16:55) and Rhael Ranson (17:46).

Isabella Anderson who ran in the JV girls race in 16:37 and Ben Woods who ran in the individual race (15:27) gained praise for their improvements from coach Shawn Anderson.
