Cody Kiser, a 19 year old sophomore at the University of Nevada and member of the California Cowboys Professional Rodeo Association (CCPRA) won the year-end bareback riding championship at the CCPRA Finals in Redding over the weekend.
The bareback championship came down to the final ride on Saturday night, and Kiser made an 80-point ride on Rocking M Rodeo Company's Wild & Blue, to win the title. Wild & Blue was voted bareback bucking horse of the year for 2009 and 2010.
Kiser started riding bareback horses in his sophomore year after suffering a severe injury while riding a bull during his freshman year of high school. Kiser also competes in college rodeos and rides as an independent in the West Coast Region of the Intercollegiate Rodeo Association.
This past spring he was the Reserve Bareback Riding Champion for the West Coast Region which earned him a trip to the Intercollegiate Rodeo Association Finals in Casper, Wyoming in June.
Kiser recently won the bareback riding at the Feather River College Rodeo in Quincy, CA on Sept. 23-25.
Zink captures Red
Bull Rampage event
Cameron Zink beat 20 talented riders to win the 2010 Red Bull Rampage championship.
Zink took home the trifecta, winning the Utah Sports Commission Best Trick Award, the Freeride Mountain Bike (FMB) World Tour season overall title and the Red Bull Rampage event.
Zink had a scary moment when he attempted a 360 off the Oakley Icon Sender custom feature, but took a hard hit that cracked his helmet. He was eventually cleared by medics and stayed in the event.
Zink made a great second run which included a 360 that sent him down 40 feet. The move, which also earned him Best Trick honors, was the only thing that could top Gee Atherton.
More than 2,000 fans hiked into the remote desert venue to witness a contest that showcased a mix of rugged, natural downhill terrain and manmade obstacles. A team of builders led by Paddy Kay spent a month digging, building and grooming the course that would become the riders' playground.
Singer ties for 10th
at conference tourney
Adelphi won the NE-10 conference golf championship, and former Carson star Jonathan Singer, a sophomore at Adelphi, tied for 10th and earned second-team all-conference honors.
Singer shot a 76 on the first day and bounced back with a 78 in rain weather on the second day to finish with a 36-hole total of 154.

Rack Fink holds a one-point lead over two other teams in the Mosconi Division of the Carson City chapter of the American Poolplayers Association.
Rack Fink has 10 points while AltF4 and Support Rackless Habits each have 9.
Edwin Scrivner of Rack Busters leads the 6-7 tier with 11 points, while Juan Pina of Twisted Stix with Attitudes is a point behind with 10. Phil Jones of Jerry's Kids leads the 4-5 tier with seven points. there is a four-way tie for second place. Eric Richards leads the 2-3 tier with seven points, while Judith Bogue of Schmitt House and Janice Cameron of The Spoke are tied for second with 6 points.
All Work & No Play leads the Comstock Division with 377 points, while Tied & Shouldered is second with 363.
Don Allred of Scratch Masters leads the 6-9 tier with 10 points, while Daniel McRae of Over the Hill Gang is second with 9. Robert Matteson of Rack Busters leads the 4-5 tier with 21 points, while Casey Richards of All Work & No Play and Dennis Sisson of Big Dogs are tied for second with 16 points. Lisa McCuiston of Tied & Shouldered leads the 1-3 tier with 21 pints, three better than James Panos of Rack Busters. Lawrence Gloisten of 9-Spoke is third with 16 points.

On Sept 27, in the Gold Dust West Senior League, Jim Pike bowled a 280.
On the same day, Jim Follis bowled a 279 game.

Ponte, Kennady win
at Eagle Valley
Robin Ponte shot a 79 to win low gross honors at Eagle Valley Women's Golf Club Ace of Aces playoff.
Kathy Kennady won overall low net with a 62.
Sherry Ramage won low net in the first flight with a 67, while Hylari Roth was the low net winner in the third flight.
Mary Kay Kaluza won low gross for the second flight with a 93, while Lynn Collins won low net for the third flight with a 104.
Jr. Pee-Wees post
20-0 shutout
The Carson Jr PeeWee Blue team continued its winning ways Saturday afternoon at Governors Field; remaining undefeated with a 4-0 record.
The defense remained stingy pitching an impressive 20-0 shutout and even contributed to that final tally with an interception return for a touchdown by defensive end Phillip Lopez.
The offense also was impressive with a strong running attack led by Brandon Gagnon and Landon Truesdale. Both chewed up yardage behind solid line play from Vincent Hershman, Heston Vana and Tanner McNabb.
Carson plays the undefeated Reno Navy squad.

Carson Middle girls
improve to 13-1
Three players reached double figures to lead the Carson Middle School 8th grade girls to a 38-29 win over Carson Valley Tuesday afternoon.
Maddie Preston led the way with 13 points, Kayla Adkins added 12 and Melanie McGruder chipped in 10.
On Sept. 30, Carson pounded South Tahoe 41-11. Alyssa Ridley led the way with 17 points and Preston added eight. Myriah King led South Tahoe with five points.
