The Misfits Theater Group presents two more performances of "The Unspeakables or Tea Time in Dayton," Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. in Odeon Hall, 65 Pike St. in Old Town Dayton.

The play, which opened last weekend, has featured a 50/50 raffle each night to benefit Dayton Food Pantry. The raffle continues this weekend and Friday's admissions will also support the pantry.

"The shows offer a two-fold opportunity for folks to see a fun play and support our local theater group and the arts, while also lending a hand for those in our community who are in need," said Christy McGill, director of Healthy Communities Coalition. "We still have a lot of work to do and still have a lot of people out of work."

Under the direction of Dan Rice, "The Unspeakables or Tea Time in Dayton," takes place in Dayton during the 1920s, with most of the drama centered around Odeon Hall. With Prohibition the law of the land, folks would come to drink Mama's "tea."

The antics take off as Mama operates her tea house while keeping the true nature of her business hidden from Blossom Bright who crusades mightily against illegal alcohol and forms the Sisterhood for Liquor Use Termination Society.

However, Blossom's older sister, Thistle Rose, has plans of her own.

Theater-goers will be treated to yet another wonderfully funny and often sly script brought to life by a cast of seasoned performers, and invited to boo, hiss and cheer the characters.

Written by the late Tony Thornburg, "The Unspeakables" continues his legacy of creating delightful works enjoyed by audiences of all ages.

"We had really involved, wonderful audiences last weekend and look forward to seeing more folks (this weekend)," said Carol Bauer, who has written, directed and performed with The Misfits. "The Misfits' performances aren't usually fundraisers, since we have to cover our costs, but with Thanksgiving coming up on us, we thought it would be nice to build up (Dayton Food Pantry's) coffers.

"And we desperately want to help."

Tickets cost $10, with seating designated in order of reservation. To reserve your seat or for more information, call Bauer at 246-9622. Tickets will also be available at the door.
