The Carson High boys soccer team tied Damonte Ranch, 1-1, on Wednesday.

Carson came out strong in the first

10 minutes but had nothing to show for it on the scoreboard. Damonte countered in the 12th minute with a goal.

The teams would go back and forth before Carson's Jason Martinez was pulled down in the 33rd minute. Martinez converted the penalty kick to tie the game at one.

Coach Eric Masters said the team had its opportunities but couldn't capitalize on some good chances. He praised the play of Sam Hutchinson, Zach Bruce and Chris Espinoza.

The tie moves Carson to 8-1-1 in league and moves Damonte to 5-5 in league. Carson still has a stranglehold on second place.

Carson hosts Hug at 11 a.m. Saturday.

In JV action Carson won 4-0 over Damonte. Robert Abundis scored the first goal in the fourth minute. In the 13th minute Jorge Rodriguez scored on an assist from Francisco Barrios. Barrios would score a goal in the 22nd minute, with an assist by Daniel Limon. The last goal was scored by Abundis in the 30th minute.

CARSON RUNS WELL IN WINS

OVER DOUGLAS

The Carson High cross country teams defeated Douglas at North Valleys on Wednesday.

The Senator girls finished first, second and third en route to 19 points and the win.

Alex Drozdoff won her first high school event in the time of 21:56 across the

3.1-mile course.

April Shonnard was second (22:13) and Cindy Juchtzer was third (22:19). Erika Sosa was sixth (23:33) and Amanda Gordon was seventh in 23:36.

Also running for Carson were: Mallory Wilson (9th, 23:356); Ashley Salcedo (11th, 24:27); Chelsea Gordon (15th, 25:17); Alex Theiss (25th, 26:59); Avery Hudak (27th, 27:44); McKennah Tackett (38th, 31:21); Haley Toups (40th, 40:20).

Coach Pete Sinnott said the girls are running well and getting stronger with each event.

On the boys side, Carson finished with 20 points after placing second through seventh. Douglas' Andrew Cobourn won the event in 18:20. After Cobourn it was Carson's Logan Philippi (19:13), Taylor Bradshaw (19:24), Joshua Van Sickle (19:28), Nicholas Greene (19:34), Brent Moyle (19:42) and Evan Richards (19:59) finishing second through seventh respectively.

Brandon Buonacorsi was 10th at 20:43; Dominic Kinder was 12th at 20:55; Chris Merriner was 18th in 21:55; Tony Xie was 29th at 23:01; Rhett Petrenko was 33rd in 23:22; Craig Smith was 35th in 23:45; Tylar Chester was 39th in 24:02; Scott Galloway was 42nd in 25:33; and Micah Davis was 51st in 29:52.

Kinder a freshman is making enormous improvements each race, Sinnott said.

Carson competes in the Clovis Invite at 10 a.m. Saturday.

VOLLEYBALL

DAYTON WINS IN 4

Despite a slow, sluggish start the Dayton volleyball team bounced back to defeat Lovelock in four games on Wednesday.

After losing game 1 (13-25), Dayton won the next three (25-18, 25-20 and 26-24) much to the dismay of a large Lovelock homecoming crowd.

Coach Monica Halverson credited the playmaking of Kathie Arias and McKenzie Kielty as righting the ship for the Dust Devils.

Kielty finished with 29 assists, three aces, seven digs and two blocks.

Arias finished with eight kills, two aces, seven digs and two blocks.

Madison Foley was solid for Dayton with eight kills, seven digs and two aces.

Amanda Arana added 17 digs and an ace; Erin Edison added five blocks and an ace; Cora Jeffreys added two digs and an ace; Jamie Darragh added 10 kills, an ace, two digs and a block; and Cassie Depew added three kills and two blocks.

The Dust Devils improved to 6-1 in league and 24-6 overall. Dayton hosts Silver Sage starting with JV action at 4 p.m. on Friday. Varsity action should begin at 6 p.m. The games were moved up an hour for homecoming.

SIERRA LUTHERAN

FALLS TO COLEVILLE

With Coleville and Sierra Lutheran battling for the league lead Tuesday night, something had to give. Coleville battled to a 30-28, 25-13, 25-20 sweep.

The teams fought back and forth in the first game before Coleville's Linzy Garcia finished off the 30-28 win with a kill.

Garcia was the leading hitter for the Wolves and Tori Park and Lela Gnuse-Stokes each had big games as well.

For Sierra Lutheran, junior Tiffany Patrick led the team with eight kills, four assists and four aces. Hannah Ediss had 10 assists to go with four kills and sophomore McKinze Tynes, who recently won a starting spot, had two blocks, three kills and three aces.
