City finds more revenue, boosts general fund budget

The Carson City Board of Supervisors amended the 2010-11 budget by $435,060 due to unanticipated sources of revenue.

Finance Director Nick Providenti said that coming in higher than expected by $415,060 was intergovernmental revenue such as salary and benefit savings from voluntary separations, and $20,000 in charges for services.

In other matters Thursday, supervisors:

• Heard a presentation from Providenti on general fund projections for fiscal years 2011-13.

• Presented a proclamation for Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October to Lisa Lee, director of Advocates to End Domestic Violence.

• Heard a detailed presentation from schools Superintendent Richard Stokes on the rollover bonds to be included on the Nov. 2 ballot. A town hall meeting for the public will be at 5:30 p.m. Monday at Fritsch Elementary School.

• Appointed Anthony J. Wren as the appraiser for Carson City for more than 405 acres of land owned by John Serpa in the Carson River Canyon. Wren's fee will be $8,000 to be paid from Question 18 Open Space funds.

• Approved a contract for professional services to Cost Control Associates to review energy services for electricity and natural gas services and identifying any refunds or cost reductions. The fee will be 39 percent.

• Appointed lawyer Ryan Russell to the panel of judges pro tempore for the Carson City Justice and Municipal Court.

• Heard a presentation and update from Mike Drews of the Historic Preservation Fund grant. The district is applying for recognition on the National Registry.

• Heard a review of the Carson City Operations Scorecard. The report included recommendations offered by the Nevada Taxpayers Association in regards to local government fiscal policy and how these have been implemented by Carson City through the use of the performance scorecards and strategic planning.

• Ratified the city manager's approval of payment to P3 Development for $86,691.

• Changed the Nov. 18 board of supervisors meeting to 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 16 to avoid a conflict with Nevada Association of Counties conference.
