On the day a fire burned down the Mattress King in March, owner Cory Crawford said he decided to stage a fire sale.

What could he lose?

"I put it all out in the parking lot," said Crawford, who watched his business burn as 50 mph winds fed the fire.

Six months later, Crawford has reopened the business at 445 Fairview Drive, after his landlord rebuilt the building.

"It's been a long struggle trying to get this place back open," Crawford said. "We didn't have a roof for three months."

But now, "it's much nicer than what it was."

Now there are new walls, carpet, merchandise and office for Crawford, who reopened the business last Friday with his three employees. It has a 3,800-square-foot showroom.

Mattress King had been open six months before the fire in March. After the fire, Crawford continued the business through a small office as a crew rebuilt the building, which also houses High Desert Hair next door.

"So in a year I've come full circle," Crawford said.
