TRUCKEE, Calif. - Both Carson High tennis teams saw their seasons end Thursday afternoon with losses to Truckee.
Truckee won the boys match 13-5 and the girls match 10-8. Carson will be off until the 4A singles and doubles play starts next week.
"These guys came out and played hard every match, and their sportsmanship has been excellent," Carson coach Kevin Fallon said. "It was a good year. I'm pleased with my guys.
"Truckee's No. 1 and No. 2 singles players play the game very intelligently, and they have some good, strong doubles teams too. They are effective down the line."
Blake Sly posted a 2-1 record in singles, while Adam Whitt and Peter Brinson went 1-2. In doubles, J.J. Aragon and Ben Drozdoff posted a 1-2 record. The other two doubles teams - Connor Fallon and Jacob Trapp and Mathew Boggs and Corey Reid each went 0-3.
• For the girls, Carson managed four wins in both singles and doubles.
"I was proud of our girls hanging in there in a tough match," said Dave Saarem, who filled in for head coach Diane Baker-Roberts, who was in Palm Desert playing in a tennis tournament. "Truckee was just a little deeper than us today."
Emily Collins went 3-0 in singles, winning 6-4, 7-5 and 6-3. Ashley Saarem managed a 1-2 record, winning 6-1 and losing 6-0 and 6-1. Greta Sturm was blanked in her only match, and Maddi Saarem went 0-2, losing 6-3 and 6-1.
In doubles, the teams of Ashleigh Potter and Jessica Fleming went 2-1, losing 6-1 and then bouncing back for 7-5 and 6-0 wins. Analiza Ong and Katy Breeding also went 2-1, winning 6-4 and 6-3, and losing 6-3. Krista Stocke and Christina Gallegos went 0-3, losing 6-2, 6-3 and 6-2.
VOLLEYBALL
DOUGLAS SWEEPS WOOSTER
RENO - League leader Douglas rolled to a 25-11, 25-16 and 25-10 win over Wooster Thursday night.
Shannon Dugan led Douglas with 12 kills, four blocks, six digs and two aces. Brenna White contributed eight kills and six digs and Keely Latham had five kills. Setter Jackie Harper dished out 28 assists and also had four digs and four aces. Mia Townsell ended with seven digs and two aces, while Erin Allison had four kills, two aces and a block.
Douglas is 25-2 overall and 10-0 in league.

Garrett Schaffer threw for 250 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Senators to an easy 55-21 victory.
Carson improved to 5-1 on the season.
Schaffer was 10-for-14 and threw TD passes to Kyle Denning (65 and 25 yards), T.J. Thomsen (55 yards) and Austin Kiewsow (15 yards).
Joey Thurman scored twice, once on a 10-yard run and once on an interception return. Andrew Gutierrez ran for 40 yards and a score.
Thurman, Thomsen and Gehrig Tucker all had an interception. Coach Billy McHenry praised the play of defensive tackles Aaron Cowee and Nevin Elliott plus inside linebackers Austin Shaffer and Cody Cunningham. Shaffer also scored on a 1-yard run.
