FOOTBALL REPORT CARD

CARSON 52, DAMONTE 20

Offense:

Check-plus Hard to find any fault with the Senators' offensive play against the Mustangs. Carson, without Dylan Sawyers, racked up eight scores in eight first-half possessions and had 409 yards total offense. Carson didn't do much in the second half, but it didn't need to. Trey Jensen only had four incompletions, and three of those were on dropped passes. Jon Parker and Cole Dufresne did a nice job in their expanded roles, and Colby Blueberg had two scores on two touches.

Defense

check-plus Damonte's offense isn't much better than its defense, but the Senators' first-team defense allowed only one score and 122 yards total offense in the first half. It was the second and third-string that allowed the two second-half scores. Save for a screen pass that went for 60-plus yards in the first half, Carson was really good. A fumble recovery and a couple of picks were huge in giving the Senators field position.

Special teams

check plus Austin Pacheco kicked a season-long 49-yard field goal in the first quarter and also had three touchbacks. The only kick that didn't go inside the 5 was when Carson was penalized for being off sides. He also had a nice 48-yard punt. Chance Quilling had two tremendous tackles on coverage which helped pin Damonte back.
