GOP united in resolve to ruin us

With early voting beginning in two weeks, there are no Democratic candidate signs for Reid in evidence around our state. Instead, there are Republican signs everywhere plus anti-Harry Reid bumper stickers and yard signs. Therefore, even though jealousy is a deadly sin, I am jealous of the Republican Party.

Unlike the Democratic Party, they are united in their determination to avoid solving any of our nation's problems as long as a Democrat is in office. They long to keep the Bush legacy of failure alive and continuing, and will not stop until they turn us into a nation of survival of the fittest. This goal can only be accomplished by the elimination of any and all government assistance.

In contrast, the Democrats are ready and willing to accept the fact that they are going to crash and burn on Nov. 2nd. Regretfully this is a situation that they have brought upon themselves by their failure to get the job done during the last 18 months they have been in power. They seem to have run scared ever since the day they assumed power.

Sadly the state of Nevada will have another four years of a Republican governor and continue on the same downward spiral it has been on. Our senior senator will be exchanged for a junior senator with a record of voting no on anything and everything.

Even though we could use a Messiah right now, he is not due anytime soon.

College Parkway onramps poorly designed, dangerous

In regards to the new freeway in Carson City - the onramp heading south onto the freeway at College Parkway is a death trap. When heading west on College and getting onto the freeway south, the people heading east and getting onto the freeway south do not see the "Yield" signs at all. Most of the time my young kids are in the car with me.

Something needs to be done immediately to avoid an accident and or injury - flashing lights, bigger signs, etc. I've contacted the Nevada Department of Transportation to try and resolve this on their end, but I assume if anything is done, it will be too late.

Watch yourself, because these eastbounders think the westbounders have to yield.

Violent cartoon has no place in family newspaper

I want to make a comment regarding the cartoon that was in the Nevada Appeal on Oct. 5. It was a cartoon of either a donkey, burro or mule being smashed in the head with a baseball bat by President Obama.

I saw this cartoon as being definitely disgusting and unnecessary. There are thousands of cartoons you could choose from, and this is the one that was chosen to be published?

I am a wild-horse advocate, and along with all of the thousands of other advocates that are struggling every day to try and protect our wild horses and burros, a cartoon showing the slaughtering of a donkey does not exhibit a positive view of our stance in trying to protect them.

It does not make a bit of difference if this is a political message or not; it is an extremely violent cartoon, not to mention that on the front page of this issue is a large picture of 11 kids donating time for the Boys and Girls club, a few pages further into your newspaper is the "Kids Page" and the insert "Student Zeal."

For those readers who have children, I hope they proof-read the Nevada Appeal before handing it over to their kid to enjoy the youth portion of your newspaper.
