Obituary: L. Pete Nolan

L. Pete Nolan, 74 of Dayton, passed away Oct. 10, 2010, at his residence. He was born on Jan. 17, 1936 in Bismarck, N.D. Pete attended Sparks High School where he met the love of his life, Sally Schilling. They were married Jan. 1, 1956. He joined the U.S. Air force as an air policeman in 1957. After completing his tour of duty he became a Reno fireman for the next three years. In 1965 he joined the Nevada Highway Patrol and was stationed in Las Vegas, Pioche and Reno. He then transferred to adult parole and probation and retired as a unit supervisor in 1982.

Pete loved all types of racing. He raced motorcycles, liked downhill skiing and traveling. But most of all he was known for his light-hearted joking. Pete's greatest joy was spending time with his wife of 54 years, daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife Sally; mother Jeanette; brother Woody; daughters Tracy and Cheri; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15,, at Sparks Christian Fellowship, 510 Greenbrae Dr., Sparks.
