Bennie, 61, passed away in Carson City after a courageous six-month battle with cancer. She was born to Daniel and Marie Whitener in Phoenix, Ariz. She is survived by husband Whit; children Megan (Patrick) and Peter (Dezurae); brothers Danny (Celia) Stokes of Maricopa, Ariz., Glen (Rose) Whitener of Tucumcari, N.M., and Jerry (Sherry) Whitener of Phoenix, Ariz.; sister Nancy (Bill) Mullins of Tampa Bay, Fla.; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.
Bennie worked for the Nevada Department of Prisons, retiring with 30 years of service in Feb 2005. She was a consummate professional in her work and a friend to all who she touched in her life.
Words cannot explain how she will forever be missed.
A celebration of her life will be 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 22 at Calvary Chapel at 1635 Clearview Dr. Carson City. A reception following the ceremony will be held at the church. In lieu of flowers please donate to the OARC.
