FOOTBALL REPORT CARD
Carson 23, Spanish Springs 13
OFFENSE: The Senators started slow offensively. Trey Jensen made a nice run on an option play, and threw the ball well (9-for-10. There were a couple of plays with some mistakes, once on a run and once on a pass where Jensen was sacked for negative yardage instead of throwing the ball away. Jon Parker had a nice 23-yard run in the fourth quarter which helped put the game away and Colby Blueberg had a 56-yard scamper.
Defense: Carson gave up a lot of yards (312), but turned away the Cougars in critical situations. Chris Steele had a momentum-changing interception and Darrien Goldman, Tyler Collins and Connor Beattie were stout on a fourth-and-1 play at the goal line. Chance Quilling had a nice game at free safety in relief of Gabe Pongasi, who is expected to return next week.
Special Teams: The grass field gave kicker Austin Pacheco a few problems with his footing, but he did bang a 40-yarder through the uprights. He did miss an extra point, however. When he tried to kick it deep, he got it inside the 10. Pacheco punted the ball well.
