Nobody asked us, but ... Miracle in Chile shows the best of humankind

As of this writing, there's been a miracle in Chile. To see the miners come from the bowels of the earth to safety has been overwhelming. The joy, the expertise, the prayers, all of it shows the fortitude of men when in the direst of circumstances. Keep the prayers coming, for we now need them in the rest of the world.

Our elections began Saturday when early voting opened. Keep in mind that no one politician has the answers, no matter what she or he says. Know that most advertising is biased and taken out of context, the money comes from outside the state, and everyone has an opinion. C and M are starting the "Funeral of the Month" club, there have been so many lately. This way, you have one service at the end of each month that covers everybody, get a nice write-up about each person, and all the families and friends share food. Different churches and pastors could handle the duties. Either that, or don't die.

Update on the WNC Wildcats: Many of their alums have entered the pro ranks - Jose Barajas (Baltimore); Kyle Farrell (Atlanta); Justin Garcia (Tampa Bay); Dyllon Nuernberg (St. Louis Cards); Jesse Rasner (Baltimore); Lance Ray (Minnesota); Cole Rohrbough (Atlanta); Stephen Sauer (Chicago White Sox); and Mason Tobin (Anaheim). Not all have made it to the majors as yet, but are working their way up through the minors. Keep an eye on all of them.

Lexie Lequerica (14), and her brother, Reid (11), came in 12th and fourth, respectively, in the "under 29" group in the recent Firkin & Fox "Cancer Sucks" 5K. A certain grandmother is very proud. The Carson City Symphony, with David Bugli directing, opens its 27th season next Sunday (Oct. 24) at 4 p.m. at the Community Center. $15 general, $12 members, 16 and under, free. What a wonderful gift to this community. Please go and support them and enjoy the beautiful music.
